Aesculus
Hippocastanum A vigorous tree of great dimensions, with large leaves made up of 5-7 smaller leaves coloured in grass-green, turning to an intense yellowish-gold shade in autumn. In the month of May, it is teeming in white flowers stained in shades of pink and yellow at their centres, giving way to prickly fruits which contain the characteristic chestnuts. These are, of course, inedible. |
